HLTAID012 - Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
Overview
This course covers the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.
This course meets ACECQA’s qualification requirements for First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis.

Delivery Mode
The Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting course is completed via a Blended Delivery format, which allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before being practically assessed.
Candidates will work through theory content via online modules, prior to attending the face-to-face assessment to complete practical assessments and demonstrate competence in the required areas.
Candidates will receive access to their online pre-course materials upon booking into a course. This content must be completed in full before prior to their assessment date.
If you would prefer a workbook and manual rather than online theory completion, please contact your local RLS office upon booking.
The amount of training is approximately 8 hours, comprising of:
· Online learning and assessment: 4 hours
· Face-to-Face assessment: 4.5 hours
Prerequisites
While there are no prerequisites to enrol into this course, practical application of resuscitation and other practical scenarios that will require kneeling on the floor. Candidates must successfully complete the practical components under the award conditions.
Age Requirement
Participants wishing to complete this training are to be 14 years of age or turning 14 in the calendar within which the course is to be held.
Outcomes
Candidates who successfully complete all components of the course will receive a Statement of Attainment with the unit of competency:
· HLTAID012 - Provide first aid in an education and care setting
· HLTAID011 - Provide first aid
· HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support
· HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
